I had WiMAX installed yesterday morning, was done around 10h30. However, by 21h00 last night I still couldn't get the thing to connect. So I phoned telkom support, and the guy tells me that it can take up to 24hours for "the IPs to activate".

Has anybody else experienced this?

I just keep on getting error 678. I can ping the WiMAX box thingy, and even access it's configuration, but it just does not want to connect. :(

Na, thats nonsense. The installer is supposed to call a 0800 number with your "circuit number"(or something to that effect). As soon as he is done you can establish a PPPoE connection. Mine was installed yesterday :)

The installer probably didn't want to phone from his cell? Thats what happend to me but I made him go done the road and use a ticky box. :-)

That's not always the case, certain instances they have to be activated...

But all in all it can take up to 24hrs.

I appologize for being lost in all this. something about old dogs and new tricks. I have a friend who just ordered WIfi from a local swindler. Can't get the stinker to come back and make it work. I'd like to complain to the liscensing authority in the US but don't know where to go. Are these people licensed by the FCC? by anyone? Help!! dkammer

Uh, I'm assuming you're in the US and don't realize that this is a South African forum.

Regarding your problem, maybe call the FCC and ask.
