Windows 10 App Has Been Blocked By Administrator

One of my mates uses a D-Link modem with Windows 10. He had no issues until about 2 weeks ago when he also started experiencing the same problem as Koeks. Has not been able to find a solution for it though

D-link seem to have a problem with the Edge browser.

D-link have got a lot of products & I am sure that there are large corporations using D-Link product.
If either D-Link or Microsoft decide to block all D-link’s software it could be a very costly project.
Large corporations will not have upgraded to windows 10 yet because there are still too many bugs in the software & the downtime while trying to fix these bugs can cost a large corporation a lot of money.

First of all D-link will need to determine if the private key was released maliciously or negligently.
If it was released maliciously, what was the culprits’ motive? E.g was he/she/they a disgruntled employee/s that had a grudge against the company or was it a person operating within a syndicate or a syndicate operating within the company with a criminal motive in mind?

Ask yourself, if you were a criminal & you managed to get that private key.
What could you do with it?
All you can do with that private key is digitally sign software.
Now ask yourself what can you do with that digitally signed software & how much can it benefit either you or a syndicate?

Now put yourself in a position of a senior manager of D-Link who has to evaluate the damage the release of this private key can cost D-Link. E.g. how much the pirate software can cost you & how much a blanket block on all your software will cost you.
For argument sake lest say you have got a few companies like JP Morgan, Shell Oil, Opec & Wells Fargo using your product.
Now you get letters from their legal teams informing you that due to your blanket block of your software, you are costing them X million dollars a day & they want to be compensated for this loss.
How are you going to explain this to your legal team that have got to defend you?

If Microsoft has enforced a blanket block on all D-Link products I can guarantee you D-Link’s legal team & Microsoft’s legal team are in big discussions at the moment.

Run CMD as an admin and launch the .exe file from there.

EDIT: Didn't read the 2nd page.

BTW, I'm done with Windows 10. It's purely designed for nubz. I went back to Windows 7. I've never felt so happier with my decision.

I have tested it on my machine and a couple of client's laptops and it works.
Now I don't have to buy a new dongle.

Howzit man, I downloaded and installed the firmware but to no result... I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

Hi. You will have to uninstall the old software first and run the installation program on the stick.
This will install the new connection manager.
 
DWM-156 D-Link device

Issue is NOT related to D-Link device drivers, its related to Windows 10 security.
1. When you insert the D-Link device - you are prompted: Tap to choose what happens with this disc.
Click on Run StartModem.exe (D-Link icon).

2. You get message: This app has been blocked for your protection. Publisher: Not Trusted.
Click Close button.
Now right-click the Start button, select Command Prompt (Admin), click Yes.
Now type F: and press Enter key on keyboard.
(F: or whatever drive letter the D-Link device (dwm-156 3.75G HSUPA USB Adapter) uses ).
Now type InstallPackage and press Enter key on keyboard.

3. The Welcome to D-Link Connection Manager Setup Wizard screen will be displayed.
Click Next 3 times, click Install. Click Finish (leave checkbox 'Launch application' ticked).
Do NOT click Connect (green button).

4. Update D-Link device drivers / firmware, below is the URL:

Look for Firmware (version 7.0.3), click Download button.
After downloading file, double-click on 'D310A_0100_V5.3.4.5_DTLWA(7.0.3WW).exe'
A Command Prompt window will open and display install status, etc.
(You will be notified that update was successful). After successful notification, you can close Command Prompt window.

Remove D-Link device, reconnect D-Link device.
You will be prompted 'Tap to choose what happens with this disc', click on Run StartModem.exe (D-Link icon). The Welcome to D-Link Connection Manager Setup Wizard screen will be displayed.
Click Next 3 times, click Install. Click Finish (leave checkbox 'Launch application' ticked).
Click Connect (green button), you're connected to the internet.
Since you now successfully installed the driver, in future you won't get ' This app has been blocked for your protection. Publisher: Not Trusted.' Your D-Link device will work as it used to on Windows 7.

Note:
Use only hard-wired network connections (which does NOT use your D-Link device).Make sure your PC / Laptop is connected to internet via ADSL router or LAN (Local Area Network used at work). Do NOT upgrade firmware on any D-Link product over a wireless connection. Failure of the device may result.

Previous version Firmware: DWM-156 A7 FW v7.0.3WW
Latest version Firmware: DWM-156_A7_V7.0.6ME

Do NOT upgrade firmware on any D-Link product over a wireless connection. Failure of the device may result. Use only hard-wired network connections (which does not use your D-Link device).
 
Best Solution:

Right click on START - left click on Command Prompt (Admin)
Windows command processor will pop up
Select "YES"

Next to C:\WINDOWS\system 32> type in the drive where your modem is located: i.e. "D:" / "E:" / "F:" etc.

For Example: My Modem is in Drive F - below is how I change it to the F: drive

C:\WINDOWS\system 32>F: Hit Enter on your Key Board

next to F: type in StartModem and hit enter on your key board

i.e. F:StartModem

This will allow the software application to pop up on your screen and you can connect - minimize but don't exit so you can connect and reconnect when you need to

Please just note that once you have closed the application you may need to restart your PC and follow the same instructions as above to re-connect
Same applies when you shutdown your pc.
