Windows 10 Spring Update 1803: Random Freezing - Anyone Else?

I have also found 2 new issues with the Windows 10 Pro Spring Update as well.

1 - When watching videos using Kodi v17 Krypton, from my Toshiba 2TB external HDD which is connected to the USB 3.0 port on my Lenovo G50 laptop, it suddenly pops up the 'What do you want to do with this drive?' Action Center prompt after 2 hours of continuous viewing and disconnects / reconnects the drive - which stops the currently playing video.

Thankfully Kodi remembers where the current video stopped playing - so I can restart it again from where it cut off. This is most annoying.

2 - I have a custom desktop theme that changes the background wallpaper picture every minute, from a folder located in the My Pictures library. I have over 800 pictures in this library & it used to work perfectly, changing it regularly on both the laptop & my Samsung Smart TV (connected with HDMI) - that is, until yesterday - when I suddenly noticed that the wallpaper pictures are now static, despite the theme setting still showing the 'Change Picture every 1 minute' option.

I even tried deleting the theme & recreating it - no luck - still only one static wallpaper picture being displayed on both screens.

UPDATE: Seems that ALL custom desktop themes I have downloaded from the Microsoft Store have also now stopped changing the background wallpaper picture, if it has multiple pictures & is set to 'Change Pictures every' ... 1 minute, 10 minutes, 30 minutes..., - irrespective of the actual time delay setting.

SOLVED: Went to 'Settings - Accounts - Sync your settings' - under 'Individual Sync Settings', I turned OFF 'Theme', then did a FULL Windows Shutdown - not Hibernate as I usually do - then powered up - now my pictures cycle through every minute once again!

Hi everyone,

So it looks like I spoke too soon. I updated my Windows 10 Installation via Windows Update, from 1709 to 1803. The upgrade process took forever (I am pretty sure it took just under 2 hours). Anyway, everything works well with this update, only that my PC has random moments where it freezes. This usually happens when I have a web browser open and several other stuff open (Opera, or Google Chrome). The cursor is responsive, its just everything else that is frozen. The only way of getting the PC out of this state is to close the laptop lid (force it to standby) and open it again - I am able to enter my password and continue with my life. Its a bit annoying having this issue occur every hour or so.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with the latest update?

I've had a weird issue on my laptop where it freezes. It recovers a few seconds after I unplug the charger (if it was plugged in) or plug it in (of it was unplugged). wish I knew what that is about.

the only issue i have with my pc icons disappear from the taskbar after opening windows update or chrome or apps :/
maybe typical windows ten ****

I have to eat my own words here.

Turns out that disabling hardware acceleration on Chrome and Edge fixes the freezing issues when using them. And I ran into that bug several times.

-__- oh i use to turn that off but i eventually left it.

I've got a recurring issue with 1803, in that its screwing up my audio.
I've uninstalled old drivers, downloaded the latest and after many hours have eventually got it running.
But after 5 minutes or sometimes 30 minutes, it'll just kill the audio and I'll have to rinse and repeat to get any sound again.
Troubleshooting doesn't really help.

I'm running a HP Microserver with a Asus DGX Sound Card and the audio is running into my 5.1 speakers via 3.5mm jack as it always has.

I've been looking at ways to perhaps disable the onboard sound, but can't find it in the Device Manager or BIOS.

So what am I missing?
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

 that's very horrible of MSDN to not help in anyway with that normal thing we all want.

You want to disable a specific playback device?
Start > Sound
Click the playback tab. Right-click and disable the device you'd like to disable.

Since the latest update my recording device doesn't show any microphone movement, but all apps pick it up, so it's okay.

Microsoft acknowledged the problem (Fix coming 8 May)

Chrome & Contra seem to be the main apps that cause this also noted to be on laptops with dual GPU's ie: Intel integrated & AMD or Nvidia.

Its an escalation from the Micro stutter problems that popped-up back in 1709.

oh dear. maybe tomorrow i will install (and format) Windows ten Build 16299 that worked so nicely for me long time until this build 17134 :/

I seem to have noticed something really weird happen with this update.

I recently purchased an NVME M.2 drive (Samsung 960 EVO 500GB). I did a fresh install of Windows 10, and I installed all updates, including the one which fixes the freezing. I still get freezing when Groove Music is open and playing music.

I had 3 BSODs yesterday. What in the actual fk. Can't recall when I previously had a BSOD - certainly many years. My Windows 10 Pro reports being up to date.

Don't know what could be causing the issue. The BSOD page lists netio.sys as the culprit, which hardly tells me a damn thing. I haven't installed new hardware or drivers and I have no reason to suspect a peripheral isn't functioning correctly.

Some Google results suggest conflicting cybersecurity solutions can cause such an issue. Well, I only use AVG Internet Security and its complementary TuneUp program. And most importantly, I haven't made any major changes to my system recently. This strikes me as some Windows bulls**t.

Had another 3 or 4 BSODs since my last post. This is seriously p1ssing me off. The minidump had nothing useful, and of course the blue screen itself never offers actionable info.

Are you sure it's software related? I must still figure out why my PC hangs intermittently when on charge and sometimes on battery... but then consistently recovers within 3 seconds of connecting or disconnecting the charger. HP ZBook G3

This is on a desktop though. My motherboard, CPU (i5-3570K) and memory are pretty old, but the GPU (6GB 1060) and PSU (gold-rated CM 850W) aren't bad.
