Windows kicks Linux to the curb

i amazed at how i have become atuned to different distros. I use Debian, Fedora and Gentoo. Yet whenever I boot each one, I can remember the specific differences.

Hmmm, so you reckon that programs live in "Program Files" alone? More often than not, when you remove a program in Windows, there are remnants of it scattered all over your hard drive and in places that Joe Soap wouldn't even dream of looking.

As far as I'm concerned, the file system hierarchy in Linux is far more predictable and flexible than that of Windows. It's really not as intimidating as you seem to think.

I agree. I'm hardly an advanced user I'm one of those people who just wants things to work and switching from Windows to Linux for the most part I noticed no difference. As long as programs create shortcuts in the main menu who cares where they're saved?

Moblin will kick Windows to the curb, Intel's own version of Linux for netbooks.

Love the flame-inciting title of ZDnet's article.

Let me get this straight. You title your article "Windows kicks Linux to the Curb", clearly because Linux lost a bit of footing in the netbook market, then you go on to say how, due to Linux, Microsoft had to lay off 5000 employees? Further more you go on to state that Linux has put Microsoft on the defense, and that Windows is going to have to release free OEM netbook software in order to keep in competition?

Considering the above, it appears they have indeed chosen an interesting title for this article. Sure, in reality, Microsoft is probably going to be kicking Linux's ass in the desktop market for many years to come, however that doesn't change the fact that Microsoft's anti-competitive behaviour is going to have to stop if they want the market share to stay that way.

An operating system written by a 21 year old college student (as a HOBBY) causing the world's largest software corporation to (according to this article, at least) indirectly lay-off 5000 members of staff, realign their pricing model, and "go on the defensive" simply to keep up?

Kicked to the curb, indeed...
