Hi,

Currently I have 3 wireless gigabyte dongles, connected to three of my pc's at home. I have a Netgear router/adsl modem with 108Mbps wireless capability in the lounge. From my room into the lounge, my signal is not very strong with my 54Mbps dongle, and my internet connection from that PC is slow. It's not far, I just think the walls leading down the passage obstruct the signal. The signals on the PC's in the lounge which are closer to the router work perfectly at full strength.

My question is: would getting a Netgear 108Mbps wireless dongle for the PC in my room get a better RANGE than the gigabyte 54Mbps? Note that my wireless router is not the RangeMax, and the dongle I am looking at is also not RangeMax.

Thanks.

does the the netgear dongle have more power and better rx sensitivity then the gigabyte?
chances are that you will not get 108Mbps as the signal level will not be perfect. and remember 108 does not go twice as fast as 54

Not sure about the power and sensitivity. I really just want a stronger signal so my ADSL internet connection isnt so slow from that PC. Currently it sits at low and often my pings time out.

Just how weak is your signal that your adsl (running at a max of 1024) times out? How fast is lan activity?

Well it varies. Occassionally says 54Mbps connection on LAN, then drops to 40 or so, then 12, then up again. My pings to my router and other PC's time out occassionally, and download speeds are slow. If I move the PC to the lounge, everything is hunky dory at full speed. So im guessing its the signal strength from the room messing me around a bit. Thats why I was wondering if 108Mbp dongle would work better.

Why not use PCI cards? You have the option of using an external antenna then
