With all the crap that's been going on with iBurst at the moment, (Blocking P2P, hard capping certain users etc etc), is it worth the risk to exceed my bandwidth limit today and continue downloading? Or will I receive a call from the Accounts department tomorrow telling me that I will be hard capped until further notice?:mad:

Yes, it's worth the "risk". I think 8 people being harcapped (and subsequently uncapped again?) for doing around 30GB over their cap isn't much to worry about right now.

btw, how are you sure that you can keep getting uncapped speeds, does that always happen for you until you disconnect?

I think its a risk to try download 50gbs in the softcap. A couple of gigs over shouldn't hurt.

Yup. The BW monitor is static, right? Until I decide to disconnect, or I get a power failure, I download at normal speeds. :D ;)

It might show static on your side in the email and website reports, but it can and normally does kick in while you are connected.

This has happened to me many times while I was busy downloading a large file at "high" speed, then all of a sudden it would drop to capped speeds.

On checking BWMeter it shows I've hit the cap during the download, so don't bank on the capped speed not kicking in while you are connected.

I probably won't even reach my cap this month as I've only used about 60% so far.:p

YES now that would be telling now would it not.

Watches as iburst techies watch in interest as to how it's done.

EDIT: GBM, where does the idea of "select 8 subscribers" come, I know it was mentioned somewhere but I'm pretty sure it's a hell of a lot more than 8. ;)

Apparently that's the number of people they called and hard capped until July. Yeah, it's probably a 100 times more than that..... but what can I say..... it's iBurst.....

Changing Their Terms

I can still live with a hard cap after my 3G allocation has been used up, although that was not the arrangement when I signed up. What upsets me is not being able to use my 3G each month because of blocking/shaping etc. They have doubled their subscriber base, 50% of which is probably contributing about R1 million a month, while the rest of us are really funding the operation and being penalized for doing so.

It's not quite the same as P2P, but you can still use rapidshare and megaupload. ;)

EDIT: Speaking of Rapidshare, is there a way to request a new IP to bypass the waiting time WITHOUT resetting my connection? I really don't want to reboot my connection for obvious reasons right now.... ;)
