I would like to know if I would be able to play WOW on 384 Shaped Adsl line with a 3gb cap. How much bandwidth will I be using on a monthly basis to play this game? I will only be playing at night during weekdays for a couple of hours and over weekends. How does WOW compare with Guildwars? What would I need to start playing the game? Which servers is best US or Europe? Any info would be appreciated since I'm a newbie, but by the sound of it, WOW sounds GREAT! :)

WoW rocks and I haven't seen many things that are as much fun. Your 384k line should work fine, and a 3Gb cap should be fine if you are only playing WoW. I use a 1Gb unshaped account and it works beautifully. I would suggest the European realms as the time zones are similar. Also I believe there was a problem for some ppl getting the Burning Crusades expansion for the US servers. So stop wasting time and go do it! Just be prepared to download some patches to get started.

Up to a week ago I also played on a 3gb shaped 384 line. It works fine though it can get laggy at stages. I have never really monitored my cap usage, so I cant comment on that, but I would guess that probably no more than 1gig.

On Guildwars... You cant compare them. GW is more hack and slash, while the WoW is much more... no real word to describe it. For long term playability I would suggest WoW 100%

Thanks for your response guys. Looks like I will be getting it most definitely this weekend. Any idea how big these patches are? Don't want to blow my whole cap and then I can't play. I'm going to buy the original WOW and wait to get to know things before I will go for the Burning Crusade. Any idea where I can it the cheapest? I'm situated in the West Rand Johannesburg.

Well I’m not sure what version they ship world of warcraft with, but if you had to go from retail the total amount you will have to download is 1121.5 mb, so I would rather just find some one willing to let you just get a copy of there game with the patches already installed. I don’t mind just posting a DVD to you but I’ve got TBC installed already so I don’t know if it’s backward compatible

if u buy wow and the and the burning crusade expansion i think u will only have to download latest 2 patches after the expansion was released

Do I understand correctly that it will be best to get both the original and the expansion before I start playing? I was thinking of only getting the original at first since the two of them together can get quite pricy.

If you are worried about the downloads, I would suggest getting the original and the expansion. With only the original you will face a download in the region of 1.5gb (I bought original first). Since I use adsl for gaming only, I had zero problems with the remaining cap since it was more than enough for playing the game.

I would really suggest that you get the expansion as well though, because I find it much better than the original.

i get all my games from www.btgames.co.zs, cant complain about anything, fast service and excellent stock levels. prices are the same everywhere.

Yes I know them quite well, have bought a couple from them in the past. Just thought there is somewhere else I might try. Is there a big difference between the tbc and tbc collectors edition? Is the price difference worth it?

No I would only buy the original first, play the game and see if you like it (although its highly unluckily almost impossible that you wont) also it still took me almost a year to get my first 60, yes you can argue that I’m a slow player and re rolled a few times but the fact is the world of warcraft is huge and I think to go through it all and enjoy everything will take some time, by the time you get to lvl 60 I’m sure the prices will have dropped for TBC and you will then be paying for something you can actually use. But that’s just my own personal opinion

U can also get the game from a friend or any1 that play wow and just buy an cd-key. The keys is usually a bit cheaper (u don’t need a key to install the game only when u open an account u will be asked for your key).

Otherwise u can also try http://www.digitalplanet.co.za
