Xbox 360 specs and prices

Sadly i wont see it happen, M$ doesnt seem to have interest in SA's xbox potential and its also Sony's playground. I will get myself one at the shops, imported of course and costing a kidney and a leg too.... ouch...

EDIT : by the way, there is a thread about this already...

i read sumwhere that they are going to be bringing them out here and are lookin into getting the Live service up and running :) , hope its true

Sorry, but that it not true. Firstly we need broadband prices to go down alot...and even then, it will take about 1-2 years to get everyone wired up. Secondly only a tiny potential of broadband users in any country (US, UK) play on Live...most people in this country don't have a PC = no broadband.

These two factors will make the local Xbox Live market to small to make a viable financial investment.

I'm trying to get a commitment out of MS. If it's true you'll be the first to know :)

There are over 3000 registered Xbox owners in ZA, there's definitely a market.

Hmm, Dominic, a bit of a chicken and an egg.

PS3 also supports live play over broadband, so Next Gen consoles can drive the uptake of broadband. More supporters for MyADSL ;)

My guess is "local" MS live would be routed to Europe via VPN anyway, they already do that with their ZA call centre (routed to Dresden).

looking at the ps3 fanboys site (www.ps3forums.com) even they admit that a lot
of developers are releasing their content on MS and leaving their Sony exclusivity behind.
360 certainly has a good game lineup going ...... but's it MS :(

While that's valid, I'm a developer, MS already own my a$$ :P

And how is it different in any way to Sony? Sony also ties you in to there product set with proprietory standards like Memory Stick, Betamax, and now Blu-Ray.

From that perspective, they're both evil (And so Nintendo)

Sony's Online "Network" Play is probably the worst service they ever invented. You have to register each and everygame with teh service inorder to play, im unsure what there new service will be like, but if its anything like the previouse version its gonna stink.

X-Live is the best online platform to have ever been created, ask any developer, its one of the easist platforms to develop for, and the Tsunmai online engine( Xbox live v.3.0 ) allows hundreds of diffrent functions to be perforemd online compared to Sony's Service.

It seems that they're going to be launching the 360's in a bundle with games, so you're actually looking at $599 for the core and $699 for the premium version.

This is the official response I got from MS:

Dear *Evil genius by another name*

Thank you for your e-mail. XBOX 360 will be launching in all the countries in which XBOX has been available to date. Microsoft Corporation is currently assessing further geographical distribution of this product. When Microsoft South Africa is aware of Microsoft Corporation’ decision in relation to XBOX 360’s availability in South Africa, we will notify the market accordingly.

Should you have any further queries, please feel free to contact me on the details below.

In other words Microsoft South Africa also has no clue.
