Xbox360 + home network + media sharing = :(

How very confusing, that IP address is normally the standard one that the Xbox gets if it doesn't receive one from the router.

It is possible that by sheer luck the standard IP falls into the same range as the DHCP range which is why it can connect to live...

Thought it might be doing something along those lines. But why can it connect to the router and not the PC.... hmmm... but not being assigned an address when set to automatic is worrying.

Yeah, the IP range is 192.5.0.x so it is unlikely it is getting assigned the right IP but sheer luck. The issue seems to be the subnet mask, though what I don't understand is why it is able to connect to xbox live though not be seen on the rest of the network... Then again (correct me if I am wrong) but you don't really need the correct subnet mask to be routed directly onto the internet through the correct gateway assignment?

I had the same problem last year. what you need to do is first uninstall all media polayer 11 and windows connect (If this was installed) for some reason these 2 did not work together after the upgrade from wmp10 to wmp 11. and at that stage i had to uninstall everything and releod wmp 11 and then it work.

I aslo have the wmp thing excluded in the firewall

A friend of mine was also having a big problem connecting, and I'm not sure if this is the same problem you are having, but try this anyway.

This should work if you are trying to see your PC under the network menu on your box and can't find it (the tests say no PC connected).

If you go to the music player blade on the Dashboard (the blue one) and look around there, there should be something to do with connected PC's (I can't remember which menu it was under, and I'm away from my 360 at the moment - just look around under the Media blade and you should find something). Well, if you can find the screen I am talking about, it is likely that THIS screen will show your PC, allowing you to select it (I'm not sure how, but you should be able to figure it out), and then you can test the connection on the Settings blade.

Again, I don't know if this will help, but we spent a good few hours re-installing, fiddling with firewalls and testing everything before I randomly happened upon the Media blade and found the PC somewhere under that.

I hope this helps.

Have you tried the diagnostics test that is on the XBOX???
