Y2K type bug back in 2038?

It goes further than kernels though. That epoch time is used in a LOT of applications etc.

I'm sure it will all be sorted out in a 1/4 century, plenty of time. Way too many Chicken Little's out there.

In most instances, yes. But do you for example trust your municipality to be all up to date and ready?
Your first bill for 68 years of property rates could be a doozy...

It will get fixed, it's also pointless to worry about things out of your control. You can sleep peacefully tonight.
