Wow some guys cant read!

Geepers guys, ok I am not an expert nor do I have exact figures but the Seacom (unlimited :p) bandwidth is +/- 20 times the price for the line that you get from your ISP (ADSL 4mbps for EG) Thus for an ISP to make a profit they must share that 4mbps Seacom backline between 20 ADSL customers... now then obviously speeds will be k@k, and therefore they must make sure that not all 20 of those users are constantly downloading stuff and they introduce a cap, so that once they have enough subscribers they can share there 20 * 3GB between 1 4mb Seacom line and still have decent speeds

there should be more content hosted locally, or cached locally
FTTH to everyone, and cache servers linking to each exchange
you can have the thickest, biggest, bulkiest cable undersea, but in the end, the telco providers are the ones with the rules
when LLU comes into shape, any telco can provide content, obviously locally, cause it would be cheaper for them to roll it out

when download windows 7 beta.iso for example, did you guys really think that telkom would be stupid enough to let all lets say 500 people download the iso file via the seacom link? NO, download it once via proxy, and supply to the rest of ZA.
