More clarity on Telkom’s cheaper one-price broadband offerings
Telkom’s Do Broadand offerings bring a true one-price ADSL service to consumers, which also include price cuts on some of the products.
A question on the top of the list for many current TelkomInternet subscribers is whether they will be able to seamlessly migrate to the new Do Broadband offerings.
Telkom confirmed that “existing TelkomInternet subscribers can move over to the new DoBroadband offerings at no extra cost at all”.
This forms part of an “all access Internet account” allowing seamless migration for dial-up or any other access medium to DSL and vice versa.
Capping
TelkomInternet’s relaxed capping policies apply to some of the Do Broadband offering. The result is that the Do Broadband accounts will not be cut off when reaching their allotted monthly usage limit.
This relaxed capping policy however does not apply to 1 GB accounts, Telkom explained:
“All subscribers will have access to their minimum monthly bandwidth of either 1, 2 or 3 GB. Should a customer have a 1 GB account and reach a threshold they will fall into the restrictive access category,” Telkom said.
“It is important to note that no collective threshold is applicable to 1 GB accounts. Should a customer have a 2 or 3 GB account and consume the initial subscription of 2 or 3 GB prior to month-end, they will then have access to a collective threshold which will keep them online and unaffected.”
Telkom said that the collective threshold will be shared as evenly as possible and is intended to keep as many subscribers online for as long as possible. This however has a limit and will vary from month to month according to demands from customers.
“Once a subscriber exceeds their service threshold of 2 or 3 GB and that of the collective threshold of that month (say (2+1) 3 GB in total) they will fall into a restrictive access category.”
Restrictive access means that the service will offer:
–Full access to TelkomInternet e-mail service for both sending and receiving e-mail.
–Access to TelkomInternet services located at www.telkomsa.net
–Access to the four main banking sites, namely http://www.absadirect.co.za , https://www.encrypt.standardbank.co.za/ , https://www.fnb.co.za/ and https://netbank.nedsecure.co.za/
