More clarity on Telkom’s cheaper one-price broadband offerings

Look carefully at the online ads - the one inclusive package clearly states line rental is included, and then, at the bottom, just as clearly states that line rental is excluded.
Telkom.

INcluded line rental is adsl line rental
EXcluded line rental is telephone line rental

Seems like do broadband is just an advertistment to their price cut.
Everyone using a telkom line and account will be automatically billed less of the difference.
So my 2gig telkom account will now be billed R149 instead of R199 and R220 or something for my 384kb line.
Dunno about the 2 gig accounts but sems like u dont even need to call to migrate, its just a price cut with major advertisment =.=

I've just placed my order. For R64 more per month I get 4Mbps and 3gb - I was on 512 and 3gig with Telkom Internet. It's definitely a step in the right direction :).

What about people on 512kb lines? There doesn't seem to be a price cut for them...just an upgrade option which is quite nice :).

Isn't it appropriate that the leach of the telecoms sector; after sucking you dry, only allows you access to the leaches of the banking sector, hmmm. leaches unite!

Ye Gods those offerings don't sound so hot :D

I've applied for my phone line and think I'm going to go for a self install. Much easier and less painful in the long run most likely. The idea of getting involved in a contract with Telkom sends shivers up my spine.

I'd still like to know what happens if you'd like to get some extra bandwidth once you're on your Do Broadband. And of course the local uncapped thing would be swell.

I agree that this is at the bottom of the ads on www.do.co.za, including the Do Closer packages. It should not be on the Do Closers because there is a one price offering which includes all telephony charges as described.

The web programmer obviously just copied, pasted and modified one advert that incorporated the line charge details and omitted to delete this detail from the Do Closer package pricing.

The advert is shown below with the contradiction highlighted.

With extremely attractive calling prices and breakneck speeds of broadband Internet, the do broadband CLOSER offerings are your ticket to the web and so much more. Hmm. That clarifies an answer I got from them... I wanted to know if I could have the Closer 2 package, with the Do 1 package (since I'm not home in the day, I don't need the included standard time minutes). This is the very confused answer I got:

You can not have closer 2 calling plan and get discount on do broadband with DSL 384 only Closer 3 with this package but if you have DSL 384 plus either 1 Gig internet of 2 Gig you will also get discount you do not have to take a calling plan with it so at the end of the day if you have our internet with your DSL you will get discount and then you can add closer 2 to the line as a seperate package.

So I'm guessing I can't do it, but I'm not sure why... but the 'discount' part maybe makes a bit more sense now.

- No .. you cannot buy bandwidth from anybody else (not even teklom themselves) and use it on this package.
- No .. you still have to pay the R90 for telephone line rental.
- No .. you cannot avoid the free modem/adsl router, you can get a modem for free and do a self install, or you can sign a 2 year contract and a teklom techie will pop into your house and hand you the free modem.
- No .. there is no mention of the "shared cap" that the other teklom internet package provides.
- No .. There is no reward for using local bandwisdth, you still have to pay for local bandwidth used.
- No .. the package details are not clear.
- No .. the people at 10219 still don't know whats going on with this deal.
- Yes, this package is rubbish.

Am I missing the VAT thing - where does it say VAT is included in the price???

Hey Anti, thought you had ADSL. Do you have a new place? :)

ICASA said:
Subscribers that have reached the monthly cap shall be allowed to top-up
their monthly cap without the need to purchase a new user amount. This
provision shall not in any way be used to prevent subscribers who choose
to purchase new accounts once their monthly cap has been reached from
doing so, should they wish to do so.

Do you mean that you can't top-up?
