Average ADSL data use in SA revealed

Telkom broadband

Telkom released its latest ADSL traffic statistics, which showed that the company currently carries around 25,000 terabytes (25 petabytes) per month. This is an increase of 50% year on year.

The company said that its ADSL traffic grew from around 6PB in March 2011 to just under 25PB three years later.

The increase in traffic is a combination of higher average usage per subscriber, and the continued growth in the number of ADSL subscribers.

Telkom reported that it had 926,944 ADSL subscribers in March 2014, up from 870,505 a year earlier.

The following graph shows Telkom’s ADSL traffic volumes over the last three years.
