Mobile TV progress in SA
The first multiplex, an area of radio frequency spectrum used for digital terrestrial broadcasting, will be licensed during the financial year ending March 2011, it said in a statement.
The other multiplex will be licensed as soon as Icasa decides on the opening of the pay TV market to new entities.
“In terms of the current process, capacity in the first multiplex will be auctioned to the current broadcasters; and to ensure competition and diversity, no applicant shall be allowed to hold more than 60 percent of the multiplex with 20 percent as minimum,” Icasa said.
