Mobile TV delay
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) today informed all the interested parties that it has decided to temporarily withdraw an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Mobile Television Broadcasting Services.
ICASA was previously calling for entities that were licensed to provide Individual Electronic Communications Services, Broadcasting Services and Electronic Communications Network Services to apply for frequencies to provide mobile digital video broadcasting services. The closing date for the responses had been set for 27 February 2009.
ICASA said that it has decided that it would be in the interest of the communications industry at large to first finalise the Digital Migration Policy and Frequency Band Plan before licensing any mobile digital video broadcasting services.
ICASA said that it will keep the industry informed about any further developments regarding mobile TV licensing.
