Absa online banking issues for Vodacom users

Absa glitch

Some Absa subscribers complained they have been unable to make payments through online banking since 4 March 2014.

Queried about the complaints, Absa confirmed there is a general issue affecting clients who use a Vodacom cellphone number for their random verification number (RVN), and transaction verification number (TVN) messages.

This is due to an issue with the security checks performed between Absa and Vodacom.

“The impacted customers are still able to view their accounts and make payments to existing beneficiaries,” Absa said.

Tests conducted by MyBroadband confirmed this, as an account that uses a Vodacom number for RVN and TVN messages was able to log in, transfer money between accounts, and pay existing beneficiaries.

“Absa apologises for the inconvenience caused and our teams are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
