Google and Microsoft patent feud settled
Google and Microsoft have agreed to end their long-running patent dispute over smartphones and video game consoles, dropping around 20 lawsuits in the United States and Germany, Bloomberg reported.
Financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
The companies have been in battle over patents for the past five years.
Among the disputes were Google’s former Motorola Mobility unit which had demanded royalties on the Xbox, while Microsoft had sought to block Motorola mobile phones from using certain features.
Google and Microsoft promised to work together in some matters related to intellectual property, including the development of a royalty-free video-compression technology. This initiative also involves Amazon.com and Netflix.
They will also lobby for rules on a unified patent system throughout Europe.
