DuckDuckGo giving away R3.3 million to open source projects

DuckDuckGo has announced this year’s recipients of its open source donations programme.

The projects were nominated by the DuckDuckGo community, with 2016’s donations totalling $225,000 (R3.3 million).

$25,000 (R372,500) will go to nine different open source projects. Last year, it donated $125,000, Business Insider reported.

The nine projects are

  1. SecureDrop (Freedom of the Press Foundation)
  2. Freenet Project
  3. OpenBSD Foundation
  4. CrypTech Project
  5. Tor Project
  6. Save Security (Fight for the Future)
  7. VeraCrypt (Open Source Technology Improvement Fund)
  8. LEAP (Riseup Labs)
  9. GPGMail (GPGTool)
