New R1,400 smartwatch powered by Android

Mobvoi Ticwear 2

Chinese company Mobvoi has developed a $99 (R1,426) Android-powered smartwatch it calls the Ticwatch 2.

Mobvoi has developed some proprietary software for the device, including a voice assistant.

A Kickstarter campaign for the Ticwatch 2 launched on 26 July, with the device set to hit retailers in the United States and Europe between September and December.

The device is compatible with Android smartphones and iPhones. It supports Android Wear apps, and Android users will be able to download apps for the watch through the Ticwear App Store.

iOS users will receive built-in apps and features through frequent OTA updates, said Mobvoi.
