Uber CEO under fire
The Uber board is reportedly considering asking CEO Travis Kalanick to temporarily step aside, with big changes planned for Uber’s management practices.
According to Reuters, the board has discussed Kalanick taking time off from the company.
“The discussion involved the possibility that Kalanick might return in a role with less authority, either in a position other than CEO – or as CEO with narrower responsibilities and subject to stronger oversight,” stated Reuters.
Earlier this month, Uber fired over 20 employees after an investigation into allegations of harassment.
The company said the investigation spanned issues relating to poor company culture, and further action is being taken against employees implicated.
Several of those whose employment was terminated held senior positions.
In April, The New York Times reported that Uber violated Apple’s iOS privacy guidelines and tried to cover it up.
According to the report, Kalanick met with Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding the matter in 2015.
It stated that Uber employees helped camouflage the ride-hailing app from Apple’s engineers.
