Number portability regulations out for comment

ICASA has published new draft Number Portability Regulations and invited stakeholders to make written submissions.

Number portability allows for mobile and fixed-line subscribers to keep their number, including prefixes, when switching from one service provider to another.

Without mobile or geographic number portability, you would have to give up your number and get a new one when you switch operators.

ICASA said the draft regulations aim to ensure effective functionality of number portability, and that number portability occurs in an efficient manner.

“It is ICASA’s view that Number Portability has benefits for consumers in that it promotes customer choice, encourages competition, and has the potential to improve quality of service,” it said.
