MTN uncapped broadband pricing compared
Summary: MTN’s ‘uncapped’ 3GB promotion is more aggressively priced than standard 3GB data packages from their competitors
MTN officially announced on Thursday 29 February that they are launching uncapped and unlimited data packages on 1 October.
This uncapped promotion means that MTN’s uncapped lite (R299) and uncapped pro (R899) services will not be subject to speed throttling after a fair use limit (3GB and 10GB respectively) is reached.
The unlimited internet promotion will be applicable to the MTN Uncapped Lite and MTN Uncapped Pro packages which come with a free MTN Sh@reLink Wi-Fi Router or a MTN F@stlink USB modem from R289 per month.
“Our customers will enjoy theoretical peak HSPA+ speeds of 42Mbps, and we are confident that this user experience will make their summer even more Ayoba,” said Serame Taukobong, MTN South Africa Chief Marketing Officer.
From 1 February 2012, these uncapped and unlimited data offers will be subjected to fair usage of 3GB for the Uncapped Lite and 10GB for the Uncapped Pro after which users’ maximum speeds will be limited to 128Kbps.
Good value for money
When MTN first launched these uncapped mobile data services they were criticized by consumers, but after MTN slashed the price of their uncapped packages they offer better value for money than most competing offerings.
