Jimmy Wales attacks SOPA-proponent Dodd
Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has attacked Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) Chairman Christopher Dodd over comments the latter made about websites who participated in last week’s SOPA protests.
Wales apparently called for the MPAA to fire Dodd saying that his statements undermine the MPAA and make the organisation seem corrupt.
The MPAA is one of the largest pro-SOPA bodies in America, and speaks for the Hollywood film industry.
Comments Dodd made to raise the ire of Wales include, “Those who count on quote ‘Hollywood’ for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who’s going to stand up for them when their job is at stake.”
Dodd also mentioned that Wikipedia’s 24-hour blackout to protest against SOPA was “an abuse of power” and that the sites were using their power to “intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.”
Wales publicly replied that 10 million people in the U.S. had contacted their local political representatives regarding SOPA during the blackout, and “that’s not an abuse of power, that’s democracy.”
