Jimmy Wales attacks pro-SOPA MPAA chairman

This sums it up:

Dodd: “Those who count on quote ‘Hollywood’ for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who’s going to stand up for them when their job is at stake.”

That is how they manipulate everyone, incl. politicians. That is why politiacians want to be seen as Hollywood's friends. This is the nonsense that must be stopped.

The attitude of the MPAA is exactly the reason why most morally upright people have no problem "stealing" from them. It's a Robin Hood thing. The more they get nailed the better.

Dodd also mentioned that Wikipedia’s 24-hour blackout to protest against SOPA was “an abuse of power” and that the sites were using their power to “intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.”

More irony than an iron-hulled ship carrying 100 000 tons of iron ore. Furthering corporate interests (by using the government) is exactly the reason the ****ing MAFIAA exists in the first place. These dickwads are a cancer on humanity. :mad::mad:

Congratulations to Derrick Cramer for trimming down an external article in such a way that it is a quick and easy read, but all the relevant facts are still presented. Keep up the good work! :)

When the US Supreme court ruled that corporate entities could freely sponsor political campaigns, they also ruled for the end of American democracy. Now people like Dodd can openly "blackmail" politicians into changing the laws to suit corporations. Just look at SOPA, PIPA or even ACTA to understand how little oversight there will be for corporations wanting to take action against supposed copyright infringements. The rule of law is being changed from innocent until proven guilty to guilty by accusation.

Agree ebudae. The Defence Industry is another prime example of the tail wagging the dog. Politicians' careers depend on such industries and lobby groups. BAe has been running Brittain for decades. When they want to close a deal with a country they put the Brittish Prime Minister on a plane to go do the work. It's a terrible mess.

Well Chris Dodd is now going to be investigated for those comments he made.

What he basically said was "yes, so we bribed the politicians"

They should prosecute him and every congressman who took money from him.

Dodd stepped way over the line. But by doing so he just admitted what we knew. I hope an example is made of him and his greedy organisation.

Shame, I can't help but feel sorry for this Dodd dude. Under his guidance and (mis)management the MPAA spent large sums of money lobbying politicians, all to see it go down the drain in a single 24-hour campaign.
</sarcasm>

On a more serious not, and not to derail this thread, but the fight is far from over. ACTA needs to be stopped as well (http://www.avaaz.org/en/eu_save_the_internet/)
