Best Black Friday tech deals in South Africa
Black Friday 2025 is here, and many South African retailers are running significant promotions to mark the event, which include some great tech deals.
These include retailers like Amazon, Edgars, Expert Stores, Makro, Takealot, and Teljoy. MyBroadband looked for the best tech deals available from their online stores and several others.
Shoppers can find deals on a wide range of products, including air fryers, high-resolution TVs, smartphones, e-readers, and various laptops and gaming equipment.
While Black Friday traditionally only lasts from 00:01 to 11:59 on the Friday following Thanksgiving in the US, many South African retailers offer deals for several days.
The sales event typically attracts some big spenders in South Africa. Last year, one Standard Bank customer spent R750,000 in a single transaction, while another spent R400,000 in one go.
The bank told MyBroadband that transaction volumes increased by 10.81% compared to 2023, and it also recorded a 4.41% increase in transaction values.
The highest number of transactions by Standard Bank customers was for products in the grocery and supermarket category, which accounted for 27% of total transaction volumes.
The retail clothing and footwear segment was the next-most popular among Standard Bank customers, contributing 11% of total transactions.
The bank reported growth in online and digital transactions on Black Friday 2024, with online purchases increasing by 8.3% year-over-year. Meanwhile, digital wallet transactions grew by 37.53% and values by 48.16%.
One Standard Bank customer processed 193 transactions at grocery stores during the 2024 sales event, while another transacted 104 times on home furnishings.
Absa recorded a 20% increase increase in transaction volumes by midday on Black Friday 2024. At that point, the largest single transaction by an Absa customer was R638,000 on an international holiday booking.
