Better broadband value on the way
iBurst recently announced that it will launch prepaid services, a move which will allow the company to compete more aggressively with Telkom’s ADSL service and Vodacom & MTN’s HSDPA offerings. The iBurst prepaid pricing which was announced was however a let-down to many consumers as they are more expensive than Vodacom and MTN’s HSDPA data bundles.
iBurst is reevaluating its packages and is likely to increase the value proposition of its prepaid offering. iBurst CEO Jannie van Zyl says that the company is currently focusing on its consumer offerings, and added that they are planning to get rid of legacy products and introduce new services to the market.
In the past iBurst was known for releasing improved value offerings, but keeping current subscribers on packages which provided a lower value proposition. Subscribers were also charged a migration fee if they wanted to move to the better value packages.
This is something which Van Zyl says will not happen again, and indicated that the process of cleaning up legacy products will mean that iBurst subscribers will automatically be migrated to the best value for money service in certain price brackets.
According to iBurst their new billing system, dubbed iBoss, and the fact that they control their own network gives the company more freedom to develop innovate products. These may include niche services like flat rated or free on-net gaming traffic.
