FNB Online banking continues to frustrate users

FNB’s online banking service started experiencing problems on Sunday after a software update caused database load problems.  Four days after the initial problem occurred the system is still not stable.

According to the FNB website online access is currently ‘regulated’.  “This could mean you receive a message indicating our system is unavailable. Please try again later. Your support whilst we restore our system to allow unrestricted access is appreciated,” the FNB website states.

According to the company they have made significant progress in solving the problems associated with the software update.  FNB will however continue to limit the number of online banking connections, effectively creating a queue of users.

FNB clients are not happy.  “For what it’s worth, it’s now Wednesday and they are still offline. I am closing all my personal as well as business accounts with these fools,” said one subscriber.  “All well and good about limiting the number of logons, but when will I be able to logon? I have made several attempts during the course of the morning without success. Each time the message is displayed ‘Online Banking is currently unavailable and should return shortly’,” another subscriber complained.

The FNB online banking helpdesk experienced very high call volumes this morning, and when reaching a helpdesk agent she could not provide any additional information about the problem.  Users were however advised to use alternative means to do their banking, like going into an FNB branch.

FNB promised to call MyBroadband and provide information about the prolonged downtime, but the bank reneged on this promise.
