FNB Online banking frustrate users

This is what happens when you hire noobs who deploy crap straight to production systems without any testing.

I don't understand why they did not simply roll back when they saw there was a problem. Maybe I am missing something, but they surely had things in place to ensure they could just use the old system again and work on the new system 'offline'?

ive been really fed up with FNB and all there problems these last few days

I think that is where Smooth Criminal hits the nail on the head. Inexperienced peeps does not always have contingency plans in place...

How do you know these are "n00bs" and no testing was done?
Anybody worth their weight would realise the implications involved and ensure that there is backout plan. This kind of thing only ever happens when you don't have a thorough test plan (positive and negative test cases) in place prior to deployment. You end up "restricting" access while you fix your cock-up.

You always plan for the worst. You can have 20 years experience and still be a noob, because you've been doing it wrong for 20 years.

I suspect they did some hardware upgrades, which aren't roll backable.

The CEO (I think) of the FNB online division was on 702 yesterday afternoon and she said that there was too much traffic to the database so they had to restrict the amount of users at any one time.

So they probably did some sort of upgrade on the load balancing servers...

"FNB promised to call MyBroadband and provide information about the prolonged downtime, but the bank reneged on this promise".Er um now why does that not surprise me.It is the Corporate users who are suffering.I logged in to my private account 4 times this morning without a problem.Furthermore if a Corporate has managed to log in they will hold onto that log on for ever because they will never get in to online banking again.

Why dont you apply for the job then? Sounds like you might know more than the current CEO. Put your money where your mouth is.
Because my job is far more interesting, mister one-post-wonder. And how does one put their money where their mouth is when applying for a job?

edit: nice ninja delete.

I also want to know this.

So ok, this poor oke that cannot do his online banking...
he is either an idiot, or a looser.

FNB provides cellphone banking, mobile banking, and some phone in thing.
All which are just as easy to use as the online banking. The thing is, there are many services still available to 'Faanie' but yet he fails to use them.

People here are posting all about how FNB should be doing a rollback of the system and what not. But I mean come on, if the user base is not smart enough to be using one of the backup services, why should FNB even bother to roll back this service.

But to FNB ... FAIL! haha

also, this being myadsl and all...
Failures like this is standard practice in IT
I dont understand what the hype is all about :P

FNB promised to call MyBroadband and provide information about the prolonged downtime, but the bank reneged on this promise.

Let's see, they've been quoted on MoneyWeb...
Lee-Anne van Zyl said:
... a system upgrade of the bank's online banking services on 4 October, the underlying operating system generated excessive internal processing functions. These internal processes resulted in limited customer access to online banking services on Monday 5 October

WHAT? ROTFLMAO, ok, she needs to get her info from someone else as that has to be the dumbest PR statement ever. It has almost no technical merit and even if true, only shows that it takes FNB ages to sort out something that essentially is being called an OS issue. Roll back, simple as that.

Van Zyl's statement went on to say said:
..the bank restored further access to its online banking system during the morning of Tuesday 6 October. As an interim measure the number of customer using the site at any one time is being moderated to ensure systems stability

How do you restore further access? Either you restore access or you don't...

EPIC PR Fail...

Very interesting statement"I cant surf the web all day.I do work".However you had time to register on My Broadband today, posted a post which you deleted, reposted a post.Yes we all started with one post but perhaps some of us did not register with My Broadband in order to attack another user.

I remember when they rolled out that One Time Pin thing - I was in Australia, working there, and they said the email functionality didn't work yet, only SMS - took about a month to get them to realise I can't get local SMS's in Australia, they then hard coded my email address into the system or some such.

Just went to fnb for the first time today, logged on, and no errors yet... seems they updated something, theres a "email statements" column now... interesting....
