Neotel CDMA network capacity to be doubled
Huawei today announced plans to expand the current Neotel’s CDMA network, following its successful deployment two years ago. This project will ensure a wider coverage for data services and increased EV-DO capacity.
Huawei will provide a 4th generation BTS (Base Transceiver Station) which can support the current EVDO Rev A data service and also ensure future evolution to EV-DO Rev B or enhanced technology such as LTE (Long Term Evolution), with Huawei’s SDR Technology.
After the expansion, Neotel’s CDMA coverage and capacity will be almost doubled on the network. According to Huawei this development will enable Neotel to provide “affordable data services of high quality and speeds to their customers”.
Dr.Angus Hay, Chief Technical Officer of Neotel South Africa said “We are pleased to engage Huawei on this project, given their extensive experience in deploying CDMA, GSM and LTE networks successfully worldwide. We are confident that this project will produce a positive outcome as expected. We believe this state-of-the-art network will enable us to smoothly evolve to LTE in the near future”.

Huawei’s CDMA technology has been widely adopted throughout Africa, and the company is also currently deploying 3G/HSPA networks for Vodacom and Telkom.
