ADSL problems frustrate users

Over the past few days there were numerous complaints from ADSL users about slow speeds and international connectivity problems. Timeouts, high latency and general poor performance were reported.

Telkom spokeswoman Lulu Letlape said that a SAIX link was down between Hong Kong and New York from 11:45 until 17:00 Saturday 25 August.

“The failure was on the Hong Kong side, but being one of several such links, the impact was negligible. SAIX surveillance has not detected of any failures on Sunday 26 August,” Letlape said.

According to information received about SAIX notices there was planned ADSL maintenance which started at 22:00 on 25 August and lasted until 06:00 on 26 August.

These two issues however do not explain the continual problems experienced by a large group of users, but no additional information is available to help shed some light on the matter.

While many SAIX users had to contend with slow speeds and high latency, Internet Solutions customers were not spared.

According to an Internet Solutions network notice today there was a major degradation of international ADSL Services. The notice states that Internet Solutions is investigating the issue.
