Free ADSL uplink bandwidth
Durban based ISP Openweb has announced the launch of their ‘Free Upload ADSL accounts’ last week, offering subscribers free upload bandwidth. “On these accounts no upload bandwidth used, locally or internationally, to any destination, will count towards your cap,” explains Openweb founder Keoma Wright.
“Basically, what this means is free uploads, to any destination. For as long as you have download cap left, all uploads will remain free. After you have reached your download cap, the account will be hard capped, and you may purchase another,” explains Wright.
Openweb offers two ‘Free Upload ADSL’ accounts: 5 GB priced at R249 per month and 10 GB priced at R489 per month. Wright adds that P2P and torrent services are allowed on these accounts, but warns that an acceptable user policy applied where ‘heavy upload users’ will have P2P and torrent access shaped.
“This is a Beta Service. We are testing the viability of such an account in a commercial beta environment. We reserve the right to discontinue access to the account at the end of any month,” Wright concludes.
This offering follows a slew of other innovative ADSL services, including Sainet’s split billing service and G-Connect’s R14 per GB broadband passport.
