No ADSL price cuts

Telkom today announced its financial results for the year ending 31 March 2008. The results presentation is traditionally a time when Telkom announces price reductions to its ADSL services, but this year proved to be the exception.

It was widely expected that Telkom would announce significant price cuts to match Neotel’s recent NeoConnect pricing, but Telkom’s CEO Reuben September simply said that he feels that Telkom’s prices are competitive and that it is continually under review.

In his presentation September said that the company had some pricing initiatives, including offering value-based calling plans and re-balancing tariffs to reduce arbitrage opportunities and driving the penetration of bundles to increase annuity-based revenues.

September said that ADSL subscribers grew by 61.2% to 412 190 for the year ending March 2008, just short of Telkom’s initial target of 420 000.

The Telkom CEO said that Telkom is targeting 592000 ADSL subscribers for the 2009 financial year.
