No ADSL price cuts

In view of super damp squib Neotel, it is not surprising Telkom is not thinking of dropping prices.

It is obvious they have another year to milk the consumer before Neotel will become anything resembling a competitor to Telkom, and Telkom is going to abuse it.

Ultimately a bad move if you ask me, even if the cuts had only been a token gesture. Telkom should have shown that with Neotel entering the market they are willing to play the ball.

This refusal to budge is just another big middle finger to all their customers... as if they are saying "take it or leave it".

Those who, like me are currently happy with our ADSL service are not likely to move over... yet. But in one year's time the picture is going to be vastly different. and that is why Telkom should be playing the ball now... even if it means dipping slightly into the red for one year, they can easily afford it!

Unfortunately the old, "milk the cow" attitude seems to be holding sway!

Telkom... your cow is heading out of the pasture... and there is nothing you can do to stop here you fat old farmer! :p

Unfortunately we don't have NeoConnect coverage as yet otherwise we would have switched. Talk about burning bridges. Telkom are alienating everyone while they can.

So we should assume that the price cuts and line speed increases "email" was a fake. I hope they still have plans to up the line speeds even if it is without a price cut.

Until there is direct, comparable product competition for Telkom in the ADSL market, I don't see how they will cut prices to stay competitive.

Another sure fire, winning announcement from everyones favourite

Dear Telkom

If you wont lower the price or UP my linespeed, then UP yours

regards. Gru

That will come back to bite them in the end. Very poor foresight. Telkom know nothing about customer loyalty and how to cultivate it.

Telkom can sell ADSL for much less than it does now. The moment a competitor comes and undercuts them, Telkom will simply have to flip a couple of switches to gain the upper hand once more.

It will be a long time before the "where you gonna go?" attitude disappears.

Those criticising Telkom obviously think that Telkom cares a damn. Well, Telkom doesn't and the reason is simple - the management's life span is 1 to 3 years.

This means a period of 1 to 3 years in which to accumulate the maximum rewards in terms of salary, bonuses, shares and fat pensions.

As many have noted, Neotel is not going to be a serious threat inside of a couple of years. They have either still to provide competing services or prove to corporates that they can deliver.

If you were running Telkom, what would you do?

Neotel have basically broken my heart. No competition for Telkom means another year of high prices...
