Telkom ADSL hard capping kicks in
Telkom’s new ADSL pricing structure recently kicked in affording customers a higher cap but also a slightly steeper analogue line rental fee. Telkom’s All Access 2 GB and 3 GB subscribers will see their monthly usage limit increase to 3 GB and 5 GB respectively.
This new pricing structure also means that strict capping is once again the order of the day where users will not be eligible for additional blended bandwidth after reaching their monthly usage limit.
Telkom’s previous ‘threshold capping system’, where subscribers typically received around 150% of their allotted monthly bandwidth allowance before being capped, has fallen away to the dismay of some 1 GB ADSL users.
“Well looks like the extra 500 Meg Telkom used to give us mahala has fallen away. Was hard capped at exactly 1 gig, not a kilobyte more,” said one subscriber. “They took away 500 MB from their 1 GB clients so that they could increase the data available to their 3 GB clients from 4.5 GB to 5 GB and pretend to have upped the caps,” said another.
While 1 GB subscribers are clearly worse off than previously, 2 GB and 3 GB subscribers typically get the same monthly bandwidth or slightly more under the new system.
