Triple-play over fibre from iBurst
iBurst has introduced a triple-play proof of concept (POC) at the gated community of Monaghan Farm which is situated just north of Lanseria Airport. The triple play concept delivers video, voice, and data services to houses on the estate via an iBurst data centre, situated at the Monaghan Farm admin block. The service will be rolled out to all 279 houses on the estate.
The data centre receives a DSTV signal, and is also connected wirelessly to the iBurst Business MetroNet. iBurst Business has partnered with Goldtel to offer the service. iBurst will handle the broadband connectivity required, as well as billing systems, while Goldtel will supply and maintain the equipment required.
A fibre network installed by iBurst spans the entire estate and the last-mile connection is handled by a MetroNet (Microwave) link. Members of the community can expect access speeds of 4 Mb/s. Users will have free on-net calls and reduced rates on off-net calls.
Home owners will be able to rent a telephone and internet service for R59 a month, and will have a range of voice and data packages to choose from. Voice packages will start at R50 and data will start at R300.
“Security, traffic and other lifestyle considerations are prompting many South Africans to move into secure gated communities such as Monaghan Farm. We are seeing a growing demand from these developments for voice, video and high-speed Internet services as part of their offering to residents,” said iBurst Head of
Commercial, Steve Briggs.
