MTN scam warning

MTN today warned about a scam where subscribers are contacted telephonically by an individual who identifies himself/herself as an MTN employee, using the following number 083 434 3348.  The individual invites the subscriber to SMS R180 worth of airtime, as a transfer cost, to the specified number in order to receive between £75 000 and £100 000.

“MTN would like to warn its customers against participating in any such offer and forwarding any personal information to an unknown recipient. MTN will never contact its subscribers directly to participate in any competition or promotion,” the company said in a press statement.

“MTN apologises for any inconvenience that this fraudulent scam may have caused among its loyal customer base, and would like to assure them of excellent service from MTN at all times. For more information, please visit the MTN Web site.”
