Vodacom blackout

According to Vodacom subscriber feedback their cellular service was unavailable in Sandton, Bryanston, Northcliff, Randburg, Pretoria and various other regions.

Vodacom confirmed that one of their servers providing prepaid services was struck by lightning earlier today. The Vodacom Engineering team has corrected this problem – however, it did create a backlog of recharges.

An unrelated problem was experienced in the greater Sandton area earlier today where Vodacom customers may have had difficulty receiving calls. This problem has been corrected, Vodacom said.

A small percentage of Vodacom customers could however still be sporadically affected, the cellular provider said.
