Vodacom still looking for suitable ISP partner

Vodacom COO Pieter Uys said that they are in discussion with DataPro, Verizon Business and Storm regarding a possible partnership or even a full acquisition. Uys further said that Vodacom gave up the ghost on Internet Solutions.

According to Uys the structure of a potential acquisition of an ISP will determine whether the company will become part of Vodacom or continue to function as a separate entity. In the case of a majority share acquisition, the ISP will fall under the newly formed Vodacom Converged Solutions.

Staffing

Vodacom’s new company has attracted some big names in the local telecoms industry, including Telkom’s Wally Beelders & Thami Msimago, and Internet Solutions’ Johann Pretorius and Ermano Quartero.

Vodacom strongly denied media reports that they head-hunted these individuals, and pointed out that some of these individuals applied for the positions as far back as nine months ago.

Vodacom’s Uys is currently still the acting Managing Director of Vodacom Converged Solutions, and he said that he will wait until the company gets its feet off the ground before handing it over to a new MD.

No MD has been appointed yet, but Uys pointed out that they have a short list of candidates from the local telecoms space and that an appointment will be made as soon as it is needed.
