Vodacom still looking for suitable ISP partner

Phew, that's a relief.
There is such a large gap between R200 for 1 Gig (VC) and R130 for 30Gigs (IS).
My money is on Verizon.
Datapro seem to be on a mission at the moment with quite a few international acquisitions recently.
Storm... well, storm doesn't seem like a very viable option, although, having said that, it might be their last option.

Well lets look at this and the three ISP's mentioned.
Datapro (Listed) would be more expensive to purchase. Datapro have a good data business, their voice business is expanding. However Datapro want to compete head on with Telkom.
Storm (Non Listed) there business is mainly in the call back and voip business, Vodacom already have this, they are looking for a strong data business
Verizon (Non listed) I dont know how the international company would look at it however they have a strong data business, and a good network (My bet is on them)
However Vodacom have said they want an ADSL market, so then it would be Datapro, Datapro's share is reacting to this news ? I think Telepasport will buy storm. and Vodacom may buy Verizon

My money is on DataPro, followed by a close second in Verizon.
Storm i do not believe will feature, but as somebody mentioned, would make a good last resort...Shame! they do have the minutes as buying power, but then VC would be buying back it's own produce...as for their Data suite...mmmm...not much there and concidering that VC is looking for a fixed line company i think it pretty much excludes them as i don't see or hear much from their stable. nothing revolutionary anyway.
Verizon could be a very suitable option. We all know that Vodafone has a good working relationship with Verizon internationaly and the 2 might work well...but this is SA remember (think Virgin mobile), the one thing that could stand in the way of Verizon and VC is the (xyz) % in Verizon that is owned by Jay Naidoo in the form of JAndJ communications...Jay for the record is Former minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Broadcasting and is a member of the ANC NEC...i hope politics will be avoided here at all costs!!!!
Again, Verizon does not appear to be interested in the emerging broadband market or they would have made more noise here on this very forum. The man on the street like you and I typically won't refer to Verizon as an ISP for the man on the street...i also don't beleive that vodacom would fit into the red-tape environment that weakens the current status quo of Verizon...most of their core decision making is done outside SA...

in a market as competitive as theirs (datapro, IS, verizon etc), they (DP) have displayed huge balls and risked everthing on the farm to build what they have become. granted alot has been through acquisitions, but it's been money well spent and a very strategic shopping list too

DataPro ISP as the business Data arm of the group have shaped up nicely in terms of size when compared against the IS and Verizon's of the world. In fact at the last check the group has put forward the intention of turning over a billion ZAR before year end, that would in fact make them bigger than the latter...not bad for the under dogs, let alone for doing it with out the help of DiData or the nurturing mothership back in the US for Verizon!!
@lantic is SA;s second largest consumer ISP in SA, so Vodacom would do well to sell into that market through @tlantic...i see huge 3G penetration here.
Orion - well that speaks for itself...a formidable player in the LCR business second to none! They alone hold more than 80% of corporate SA LCR business...has anybody tried taking business away from Orion????
Vox telecom - probably the gutsiest, noisest Telco startup this country has ever seen in terms of jumping on the market with VoiP products and leading the way in terms of interconnects, pilots and the adoption of this killer app...again DataPro group put it's balls to the wall when incubating this company.
then comes Bizcall, the IP telephony startup in the group which i hear is penetrating well in the CAll centre space, giving Mytel and Avia a good run for it's American Dollar...
If it's a gutzy ballsy partner that VC is looking for to bring it into the ISP space, and quickly, i say DataPro would teach them a thing or two...and in return the combined force between DataPro group and VC would be a serious player when taking Telkom head on...after all that is what DGR and Knott Craig are after...1+1=4 in this case...

I would be very sad to see Datapro go to Vodacom. I think that the purchase by Vodacom would create a Red Tape bound Datapro. Now that I think about it, more clients for me 
Having said that I have a huge amount of faith in Douglas and his management Team to make the correct decision to further grow the business. My bets are on Verizon.

I think money will be the main factor. VC is obviously looking for a partner to make their entrance into the rather competitive ISP arena easier, and I think any one of the three would do fine. They must also look for someone who has experience in dealing with corporates with contacts in place and with the skills set needed to build a large ISP – to take on Telkom and IS – in a short period of time.
DataPro’s share price has however shot up over the last year (from well under R 1-00 to R 3-35 yesterday) which makes the company expensive. I think they may have been able to get away with an offer of R 1-50 or even lower at this time last year, but now they must surely look at R 4-00 or more.
The deal can also be a partnership of sorts which each of these parties may welcome…better to have Vodacom as a partner than a competitor

IMO it will be Verizon Business - not an outright purchase, but buying into Verizon Business on the understanding that Verizon Business' parent company gives Vodacom access to SAT-3 on 2007-11-01.
