iPhone pricing speculation

One of the worst kept secrets in the cellular industry is the launch of the iPhone in South Africa on Friday 26 September.  But Vodacom and Apple were far better at keeping the price of the 3G iPhone under wraps.

Recent reports started to emerge that the iPhone will be available on contract and prepaid with prices dependent on the version of the iPhone purchased and the contract.

According to iAfrica the prepaid price of the iPhone will be R 7999.00 for the 8 GB version and R 9799.00 for the 16 GB version.  iAfrica reported that this pricing came from a spokesperson at Cellucity, but was also confirmed by a Vodashop owner.  This pricing is however significantly higher than the official pricing:  http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Cellular/5358.html

This pricing however remains purely speculative at this stage and official pricing will only be made available tomorrow.

The iPhone will be available country wide tomorrow.
