MTN website downtime
Internet users who tried to access the MTN website (http://www.mtn.co.za/) and MTN SP website (http://www.mtnsp.co.za/) this morning were greeted by the error message “Server Error in ‘/’ Application. Cannot connect to the configuration database.”
Anecdotal evidence suggests that the downtime started early on Wednesday morning, and both websites were still down by the time of publication.
According to an MTN source the website downtime was caused by a general power failure at one of the MTN data centres. There was a total loss of power which caused the entire data centre to go down, something which directly influenced the MTN websites.
The MTN engineers are currently in the process of bringing up all of the systems and applications and the MTN website is expected to be available again soon. The MTN SP website was already available at around 09:40.
