Free dictionary app for BlackBerry

Dictionary.com has launched a free application for BlackBerry smartphones. This will provide users with more than 500,000 words, definitions and synonyms, audio pronunciations, spelling suggestions, a “Word of the Day” (in both English and Spanish) and a “recently searched” terms list.  The application is free for all BlackBerry subscribers.

A feature exclusive to the BlackBerry app is the ability to retrieve a definition or synonym while reading or drafting an email. The app also allows the user to email or SMS any word and its definition.

Speaking to TechCrunch, the president of Dictionary.com, Doug Leeds said that the features are designed to meet the professional needs of BlackBerry users. For example, definitions have been condensed to be more functional on a BlackBerry screen. Leeds also said that the API is being released to partners for incorporation into applications.
