AMD launches new development platform

AMD announced yesterday that it would be releasing GPU PerfStudio 2.0 with immediate effect.

GPU PerfStudio 2.0 is a free, platform-agnostic, next generation AMD Graphics application tool for game developers that will be obtainable only through a closed beta programme. It has been designed to integrate with existing projects with a view to identify and resolve performance issues at an earlier stage in the development cycle.

"The GPU PerfStudio 2.0 suite of tools is extensive, customisable and, most importantly, based on open standards, which is critical for developers looking to integrate them into their existing workflows" said Neal Robison, director of developer relations for the graphics products group at AMD.

Some of the features include:
– A frame debugger which will allow developers to freeze applications on a single frame for detailed inspection;
– A shader debugger, for the live debugging of HLSL and ASM pixel shaders; and
– A frame profiler which will identify performance bottlenecks and optimisation opportunities.

GPU PerfStudio 2.0 will include support for DirectX 10.1 as well as for 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Additionally the application will be able to debug 32-bit applications on a 64-bit system.

No custom drivers are required in order to use the full feature set available on ATI Radeon graphics processors – GPU PerfStudio 2.0 works with the shipping ATI Catalyst driver.
