Teraco Johannesburg launch date announced

In March this year Teraco announced that it had opened its first vendor neutral data centre in Cape Town.  Based in the Great Westerford building in Newlands the 500 square meter data centre focuses on providing hosting space to service providers and high-end clients such as carriers, ISPs, managed service providers and corporate businesses.

In July Teraco further announced that it would top up its operating capital with a further R50-million in a successful Series-B round of financing, consisting of equity and loans. This follows the conclusion of a Series-A financing round of R45-million in 2008.

Teraco seems to be putting the money to good use, and has revealed that its 3800 square meter Johannesburg data centre should open its doors in early January.  “The team is busy and with over 70 people on site working shifts 7 days a week, the project is ahead of schedule. Initially we said February 2010, but we now expect the Johannesburg data centre to open on 11th January 2010,” the company said.

The official launch for the Johannesburg Teraco data centre is scheduled for 24 March 2010.
