Neotel network down
A cable break in the Roseband/Sandton area has caused many Neotel customers to experience service downtime. ““Work being done in that area, by a different company, resulted in the cable being cut in two places,” said Neotel spokesman Albi Modise.
ECN COO Mike Britz says: “Neotel has experienced its second major network failure this week and its third fiber cable break in three to four months. This is completely unacceptable… How are companies expected to operate with this kind of service. We have always said Neotel should have a redundant, fully-meshed, self-healing network to prevent this from happening. We were vocal about this in the press and will continue to be until they get it right”
He says the disruption has affected “entire areas ” in Johannesburg. “We have had to move all our customers over to other service providers in the interim. We will be collecting our Network License today from Icasa and start building our own network from next week Monday."
Neotel said in a statement that their technical team has been dispatched to the area to ensure that the service is restored as soon as possible.
"Neotel apologises profusely for the inconvenience that this disruption might have caused, and would like to assure everyone affected that all our energies are being directed at ensuring that the service is restored as soon as possible," said Modise.
