MWEB WiMax trial to end

In an email to MWEB WiMax trial users the company said that they “are sad to announce that our WiMAX Trial license has been withdrawn and therefore the WiMAX trial will come to an end on 29 April 2008.”

MWEB said that they applied for a trial license extension but it was turned down.

“You will have access to the Internet through your WiMAX connection until the 29th of April. In the meantime, think about how your WiMAX experience has been, as this information will help us should we be awarded a commercial license in the near future,” MWEB said.

MWEB has rolled out a WiMax network in Cape Town and Gauteng and has been serving around 1000 trial users with Internet connectivity over this network since early 2007.

The MWEB WiMax network has towers in Cape Town Foreshore, Plumstead and N1 City in Cape Town and Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Randburg, Sandton, Victory Park and Boksburg in Gauteng.
