Best HSDPA deals

The competitive wireless broadband space has seen many players battling it out for market share, forcing prices down and encouraging higher download and upload speed.

The leader in the wireless broadband race is undoubtedly HSDPA provided by both Vodacom and MTN. With download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps and upload speeds in excess of 1Mbps it is currently rivaling Telkom’s fastest ADSL service when it comes to performance.

Significant price reductions early this year also meant that the uptake has accelerated and HSDPA is now the most used broadband technology in terms of subscriber numbers.

Resellers sweetening the deal

Many HSDPA resellers have joined the broadband market over the past year or two, and have recently started to offer enhanced value propositions to attract subscribers.

Kulula Connect, a new devision of the well known budget airline Kulula.com, has a 350MB data contract, which includes a Huawei E220 USB HSDPA modem, for R 160 per month. This is a significant reduction from the usual R209 per month.

MWEB in turn cut the price of their 500MB extended data package to R199 for the first six months after which the standard rate of R249 per month will apply.

The latest deal comes from iBurst where the wireless broadband provider is throwing in four-months’ free HSDPA 3.6 access – priced at R49 per month – free of charge with every HSDPA contract.

With the battle in the broadband and ISP market intensifying consumers can expect special offers and price cuts in future, and shopping around for the best deal will most likely save you money.
