Uncapped ADSL for R180 per month
A little known Uitenhage based service provider TRL Technologies has recently launched their Internet Solutions (IS) uncapped ADSL service, undercutting other IS resellers.
TRL Technologies are selling standard shaped 384 Kbps uncapped ADSL accounts at R180 per month, R19 less than the standard R199 for these accounts. The price for their 512 Kbps uncapped ADSL service is R279 per month while a 4 Mbps service costs R489 per month.
According to TRL Technologies owner Reuben Leach they used to focus mainly on serving the connectivity needs of the Uitenhage business community, but the arrival of uncapped ADSL solutions provided an opportunity to expand their reach.
Uncapped ADSL prices and service levels
After the launch of MWEB’s affordable uncapped solutions in March numerous ISPs have joined the race to provide the most affordable uncapped ADSL service, with prices dropping well below R200 per month for a 384 Kbps service.
These low prices may however result in poor service levels unless adequate bandwidth is provisioned to serve a growing subscriber base, and this is what many uncapped ADSL users are starting to report.
A large user base consisting of a variety of users (including many low-usage subscribers) is typically necessary to create a sustainable business model for uncapped broadband services, and users will be well advised to familiarize themselves with the current fair use policies and service levels associated with an offering to avoid disappointment.
