MWEB ADSL and e-mail problems

MWEB peering free the web

Summary: Today MWEB was plagued by local and international connectivity issues; e-mail problems continue.

MWEB’s ADSL subscribers today (21 September 2011) reported problems with their ADSL service. The complaints pointed to both international and local connectivity issues.

MWEB’s notice board informed their subscribers that they “will experience slow or no international internet browsing and e-mail due to a SEACOM link failure”.

This notice carried the heading “MWEB IPC outage affecting All areas” which describes an IPConnect problem rather than international connectivity issue, which may explain the local connectivity problems reported by some consumers.

MWEB also informed their users that they can expect to struggle with receiving e-mail and accessing the message centre. At the time of publication, there was no time frame in which this problem may be resolved.

Update:

According to MWEB CEO Rudi Jansen, “There was a major switch that failed in our Victory park data centre and the redundant switch did not take over the load as it was supposed to have done. We are not sure yet why the redundancy did not take effect and we are still investigating the reasons for the outage. All services are back up.”
